San Francisco- Day 1 (Sept 7th)

So this has been the longest day ever... we were up at 3:30am est and did not go to bed until 11pst. I know that is early, but we had been up for 23 hours.

However, it has been a very successful day. We arrived in Dallas on time. We arrived in San Fran on time; however discovered very quickly how much stuff we had (picture to come when the care is packed next) and needed a new car.
On arrival to our hotel Tom Strahan- a long time family friend and history book on the city met with us. We quickly unpacked and headed to get some food. It might have been 2:30pm here, but we were still on EST. So we went to this little restraunt on Chestnut (known as the up-scales hip area for anyone in their 20s and 30s. This is what I saw from our table (so perfect for my mom)...

We then headed to the Golden Gate Park and to see the Golden Gate Bridge. Of course, the fog had rolled in, but it gave a true sense of what the people of San Fran see throughout the year. Even though we were told the week before there had been NO FOG. The fog was soo dark that is looked like smoke was rolling in.
Since we had a little time to burn we headed to the "Crookedest Street" a section of Lombard. This is looking less then 100 ft ahead and behind us.

We then got ready (by dressing warm) and headed out to the North Beach area. We went to Coit Tower and to the original Beat Center. This is the area where the poets used to hang out (you know Ginsberg). We stopped at City Light Bookstore (a famous hangout for the Beats), Vesuvio (a unique little bar where a guy came around to sell us tamales), and The Saloon (a blues bar).
