Yosemite- Day 3 (Sept 9th)

So... we headed out to Yosemite after leaving San Francisco. One of the first things we noticed were the windmills for wind power. They were all over the horizon as we left the Oakland area.

Eventually- after driving through a bunch of agriculture towns- we hit Yosemite. We came across the San Pedro Lake.
What was great about this drive was the almost 3000 ft ascent up the mountains. This does not include the already 3000 to 4000 ft elevation we were already at. Mom DID NOT like this part of the trip. Even though Derek did a wonderful job driving we heard "Derek Dont" "Derek its 35 mph" "Derek..." a lot. But she warned us that she did not like this part of the drive. This picture is actually looking down at least part of the first 1500ft ascent.

We eventually made it into Yosemite. The winding, high, no gaurd rail, curvy roads continued; however one of the first Vistas we got to was one of the best. We got a great view of Half Dome and El Capitan at the Valley Tunnel Vista Point.

On our way out of the park we hit Bridalvail Falls. This time of year the falls begin to dry up (there is only about 3 good months) so we just got a little bit of fall action. As you can see this was huge and Derek only represented about 1000th of the size (if that). The rocks were slippery, but of course he wanted to give them a try.

By 730ish we made it to our Hotel. We are staying at an wonderful Best Western- resort style Best Western. I have never seen anything like it. We got dinner and planned our route for tomorrow. It looks like Miraposa Grove (the largest redwood clusters in Yosemite) and the drive up to Glacier Point will be our destinations before heading to Sequoia National Park.
